We demand safe streets

Clinton Hill Safe Streets is a coalition of area residents galvanized into action by a horrific crash in September 2021 that claimed the life of a 3-month-old. This tragedy and others like it could have been prevented through sensible changes to our area’s infrastructure. Traffic violence has caused over 670 injuries and fatalities in Clinton Hill since 2018. Our residents deserve safe streets.

What can I do right now?

  1. Sign the petition to show local officials that we want infrastructure improvements to our streets.

What do safe streets look like?

  • Green pedestrian safety islands and bulb-outs to reduce street crossing distances

  • More one-way streets instead of busy thoroughfares, to increase pedestrian confidence in street crossing, decrease left-turn traffic congestion, and end the use of two-way streets for U-turns

  • Dedicated loading bays along Clinton Ave, to end the double-parking that leads to low-visibility, congestion, noise, and dangerous situations for drivers, delivery workers, and pedestrians

  • Two-way protected bike lanes to serve our neighborhood’s many cyclists, sized for emergency vehicle use, creating a corridor of protected bike lanes that safely link the Navy Yard to Prospect Park

  • Increased investment in clean transportation options and pedestrian-friendly public space, here and throughout our city.
